Watch Out For Cash For Gold Scams

Recessions are very curious things. They tend to reshape the landscape of employment, and of the economy itself – a nation can have one particular set of industries going into a recession, and emerge from the other side with an entirely different set of industries. This would appear to be what is happening to us right now.
Witness, for example, the failure of the timeshare industry. These timeshare firms were doing very well for themselves before the financial crisis – almost everyone had a timeshare, and firms were flush with profits. Then the recession hit, and people suddenly realized that they had their hands full just holding on to their jobs, and so vacations were suddenly not a priority any longer, which meant that people began to sell their timeshares as soon as possible. This flooded the market with cheap timeshares and dropped prices even further, and many timeshare firms were forced to close their doors for good.
On the other hand, recessions can build up industries from scratch as well. Witness the sudden and meteoric rise of the gold merchants, the dealers who buy and sell people’s old gold jewelry and other forms of scrap precious metals. These businesses are carrying on a trade that is very old, but that was recently relegated to either jewelry shops or to disreputable pawn shops.
Now, however, selling gold jewelry has nothing to do with it – there is a whole breed of new gold dealers who do nothing but buy and sell objects made of gold, regardless of whether they are jewelry, or decorative knick knacks, or even people’s old dental fillings. These dealers are in the business of gold, not of anything else – and generally, they buy these gold objects to melt them down and reprocess them into gold bars, which are then sold either to consumers or more often to the public bourses and markets where such commodities are traded. This trade has gotten much more lucrative since the recession began – perhaps economic downturns are not so one-sidedly bad after all.
Unfortunately, like any business, come the unscrupulous merchants who have a plethora of cash for gold scams you need to be aware of, from counterfeiting hallmarks to heavy gold plating on bullion bars and more. Before you enter this arena you need to educate yourself, you can find many cash for gold questions and answers at the Cash For Gold Insider.

Pfft. You're too late if you're trying to make money by buying gold. That ship sailed over 10 years ago. Where were you when gold was cheaper? Now the price is outrageously high, not to mention it's harder to use gold in products besides looks. If you're trying to make money, buy silver instead. It's consumable and the price will probably keep going up. But it's too late for the gold train.
